Pre-Paid Credit Cards: The All Around Solution

Getting a credit card is becoming more and more difficult, no matter who you are or who the company is. Because of the credit crunch that is going on right now due to the economy, lenders and banks are becoming hesitant about whom they choose to lend money to. The result is great difficulty in obtaining lines of credit and unsecured credit cards. Thankfully, there is another solution for people these days. Pre-paid credit cards offer great flexibility to anyone who has been turned down for a traditional card, and can be used in the same manner as a regular credit card.

Benefits

Pre-paid credit cards have many benefits, including the fact that you do not have to worry about balances, interest rates, or having the credit to get one. Instead, all you generally have to do is pay a fee to purchase the card, and then load the amount of money that you want for your ‘credit line’ on to the card. Not only does this give you a definitive limit, which can help you maintain and control your spending, but it allows you access to internet shopping, and secure money that is safe even if the card is lost, damaged, or stolen. Some pre-paid credit cards even have benefits from major credit card companies, such as damage to goods or points that can be traded for prizes or other items.

Finding a Card

There are a number of pre-paid credit cards out there for consumers to choose from. Some of these cards are quite lucrative, especially if you use other services from the place where you purchase the card. Many banks offer these cards, and you can get part of your weekly paycheck automatically deposited onto the card. Many different organizations and stores also offer their own versions of these cards, and you may find that you can support your favorite cause or even teams by purchasing a pre-paid credit card from the right place.

Watch Out!

Pre-paid credit cards are wonderful for anyone who has been turned down for traditional credit lines, but they are not without their own pitfalls. You need to be vigilant when you are looking for the perfect card for your needs, or you may end up spending much more in fees and other things that you should. One of the most important things to keep in mind is how much the card actually costs. Stores that sell these cards can charge anywhere from a couple of dollars to an excess of twenty dollars just for the card itself. Be sure to look at the service fees associated with a card as well before you purchase it. Many of these cards charge a few dollars each month that you are using the card, and in order to stop the charges, the card must be cancelled. You also need to know how much it is going to cost you to reload the card, as this is how you will be putting money on it. Remember, the point is to have a reusable card for the long term.

No matter why you choose to get a pre-paid credit card, keeping these things in mind will help you make sure that you get a good card that you can keep for a long period of time. Just because you were turned down for a traditional card does not mean that you cannot have the benefits of a credit card. In the end, it is more than worth it.
